Converting Virtual Machine from VMware Workstation to AWS Platform

This step will guide you on how to export a virtual machine from VMware Workstation to prepare for migration to the AWS platform.

  1. Open the VMware Workstation application, select the virtual machine you want to export, then click on File and select Export to OVF…

  2. Select the location to save the exported virtual machine file.

  3. Wait approximately 5 minutes for the virtual machine export process to complete.

  4. Navigate to the location you selected to save the virtual machine file after export. The important file that we will use is the .vmdk file.
